The Chamber (Part 1): 11 staff, 200+ yrs experience

I’ve had the need to communicate information about the Chamber, and I’m going to do that in a multi-part series.  The first entry focuses on the Chamber staff and provides some additional information about them.

Over 200 years of experience

What I found most surprising after doing the research and talking to our staff, was that our staff has a tremendous amount of experience.  There are no “neophytes” here; the amount of relevant experience ranges from 13 to 39.  You can find pictures of the entire gang here –  Also, you can call the main telephone number at 937.325.7621 or send a fax to 937.325.8765, and you will be connected with the appropriate staff person.

Mike McDorman, President

Mike is a Springfield, Ohio native.  After obtaining his marketing degree in 1989, he went on to work for the $2.6 billion utility giant OhioEdison, where he reached the level of Area Manager, when he left to head up the Greater Springfield Chamber in 2006.  Mike is extremely active in the community and serves on the boards of United Way, Junior Achievement, and the Nehemiah Foundation as well as being involved in countless community groups and task forces as well as service organizations like Rotary.  Since taking over the helm of the Chamber, membership has grown to its strongest level, the Chamber has received awards for member retention, communication, economic development marketing, and economic development projects.

Kathy McPommell, VP of Operations


VP of Operations Kathy McPommell has over 30 years with the Chamber and oversees the Chamber’s day-to-day activities.  Before joining the organization in 1977, she also worked for Stevenson’s Heating & Air Conditioning and Antioch University.  Kathy is a Springfield, Ohio native.  She is involved in all facets of the Chamber’s work, including Chamber, CVB and CIC projects, as well as supervising the staff.

Chris Schutte, Director of Marketing

Chris is the current Director of Marketing at the Greater Springfield Chamber and Visitors and Conventions Bureau.  He’s also on the Board of Directors for Leadership Clark County and the Westcott House Foundation as well as President for Eyes Wide Open Worldwide.  Chris joined the Chamber in 2007 after owning and running a successful business in Springfield as well as an upscale men’s shop on Hilton Head Island.  Chris also has almost ten years experience as marketing and retail development director for a limited partnership in Hilton Head that dealt in hotel/motel properties, golf courses, retail stores, art galleries and more.

Amy Donahoe, Director of Hiring & Employer Services

Amy first became involved with the Chamber in 2006 when she joined the Chamber Ambassador Team, and served as Co-Chair in 2007. It was during this 2007 term that she earned the honor of Ambassador of the Year, as voted by her peers. Prior to working for the Chamber, Amy was employed by OIC of Clark County from 2001 – 2008. While at OIC, Amy serviced the Clark County businesses and community in her role as the Local Hiring Coordinator. She is a graduate of Bowling Green State University where she received her Bachelor degree in Communications and Human Resource Management. Amy is in her 8th year of service on the Springfield Human Resource Management Association advisory board, including holding the position of President of the board in 2004. She also graduated from Leadership Clark County in 2003, and joined the Leadership Clark County Board in January of 2007.

Mindy Tillman, Director of Technology Services

Mindy is a Springfield native who prior to joining the Chamber in 2000 worked as office manager for DocuSource/Xerox, marketing and environmental for Emro Marketing, the North American headquarters of Speedway SuperAmerica.  Although her title reveals her expertise in hard- and software as well as network issues, Mindy also uses her marketing background to assist with many of the Chamber’s graphic design, electronic marketing, and public relations needs.

Chad Yancey, Finance Director

Chad is originally from Anderson, Indiana, and after he graduated from Anderson University, he went to work for Kone Materials Handling first as a Cost Accountant, then as a supervisor.  After four years there, he accepted a position as a Controller for a 21-physician mutiple specialty practice (Springfield Medical and Surgery Center).  From there, he worked for Clark, Shaefer, Hackett Certified Public Accountants and then later for Aetna Building Maintenance as VP of Finance and Administration.  In 1999, he founded his own private practice so that he could spend more time with his family.  In 2005, he accepted the Chamber as a client and became its functional Finance Director.

Tim grew up in western Pennsylvania, in the community of Paris, about 30 miles from Pittsburgh.  He attended Marshall University and was the sports editor of the paper there, turning the reins over to the person who was killed in the fateful 1970 crash.  He served for a short time on the staff of the Weirton Times (West Virginia) and the Pittsburgh Press (intern) before starting his 36-year tenure with the Springfield News-Sun, where he was a sports and business/feature writer as well as sports editor.

Pam Johnson, Executive Assistant & Receptionist

Pam hails from Enon, Ohio, and has a very diverse professional background.  After an 14 years with a Houston-based steel company at its Houston and Atlanta locations in sales, Pam ran sales and training for a variety of health clubs for over ten years.  She then joined Community Mercy Health Partners and served in a variety of administrative capacities with hospital executive management.  She is the newest member of the Chamber team, joining this year.

Val Kelly, Member Benefits/Publications Assistant

Val is a native of Springfield, OH and she has worked for the Chamber for 18 years, joining in 1992.  She started her career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and then worked for Commonwealth Life Insurance for 25 years performing a variety of administrative functions.  She also obtained licenses in both real estate and insurance.  Val staffs the Minority Business Committee and Safety Council and serves in a variety of other Chamber capacities.

Ellen Weaver, Accounting Assistant

Ellen hails from Dayton, Ohio and has performed accounting functions for a variety of companies prior to coming to the Chamber in 2003, including the Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority, Waterfield Mortgage (Ft. Wayne, IN), Shambaugh & Son Construction, R&M Materials Handling (6 years), Woolpert (Dayton, OH) as well as company by the name of Dox.  She also had a brief stint with BF Goodrich in Akron as a Raw Materials Specialist.
