Company Summary

The $13M Woeber Mustard Manufacturing Company, based in Springfield, Ohio, was founded in 1905, when Carl Woeber came to Springfield from Germany with a handful of family mustard recipes. Since its beginnings, the company has grown into a full-scale food manufacturer and packer making a full line of mustards, horseradish, vinegar, lemon juice and various sauces. Its production takes place at its 60,000 sf Commerce Circle plant, which the company built in 1987. Woeber Mustard employs 110 to 125 people, depending on the season, running three shifts, 24 hours per day. The company produces mustard around the clock. Their products go on store shelves, in gallon containers for the food service industry and in tanker trucks for food manufacturers who use it as an ingredient. The company also has a fleet of 10 semi trucks.

New Distribution Center – $4.7M Total Investment, 20 New Jobs

Because of strong sales and the addition of vinegar, the company needed more room. Their new $3.5M 60,000-square-foot distribution center on Urbana Road that will include a 15,000-square-foot cooler, replacing the 1,500-square-foot one they currently use. In addition, the company is purchasing and additional $300,000 in new equipment as well as $1.2M in inventory expected to fill the DC. Products will go off the production line, onto a truck to the distribution center for sorting. Project Manager Chris Woeber, a fourth-generation family member, said it also will free up space on the floor for other activities.

Investment Receives $350K Enterprise Zone tax exemption

In order to facilitate the project moving forward in the Springfield MSA, the Moorefield Township Trustees and Clark County Commissioners approved a 60%, ten-year Enterprise Zone tax exemption on the new construction. This means Woeber Mustard will only be paying 40% of the real estate taxes for the new building during the first ten years of its operation. It is expected that this will save the company $350,000 over the ten-year term.
